What is SPF?

What is SPF?

SPF, or spray polyurethane foam, is a spray-applied cellular plastic made by mixing chemicals that create foam. The chemicals react quickly and expand on contact to create foam that insulates, seals out air, and provides a barrier to moisture.  SPF forms a continuous barrier on walls, around corners, and on contoured surfaces as well as resists heat transfer.  It is an efficient solution for reducing unwanted air infiltration through cracks, seams, and joints.

Closed-cell SPF is preferable to open-cell for a number of reasons.  It has a higher R-value, reduces moisture more effectively, and provides a constant air barrier, regardless of wall thickness.  It is also the stronger solution with greater rigidity.  It resists water and completely absorbs sound.

AT NT Foam Home, our aim is to educate you throughout the duration of your insulation project.  Minimum exposure to SPF itself is critical, and we use personal protective equipment while handling it and are properly trained to work with it.
